Why it is important to remove Wasp nests in and around your garage, attic and other outdoor living spaces.
One species of Wasps found on Long Island, is being spotted by many homeowners. It is called the Black and Yellow Mud Dauber Wasp. This Wasp species develops in the spring and emerges from its paper-like cocoon as a flying adult Wasp. Although the Black and Yellow Mud Dauber Wasp is a less aggressive Wasp species, it is definitely capable of stinging if shooed away or handled.
The Black and Yellow Mud Dauber Wasp is identified by a needle-thin waist with black and yellow legs. A female Mud Dauber Wasp makes its nest out of mud, forming tubular shapes, usually in late summer and fall. These Wasp nests can be found in nature, or you may see them in your garage, barn, attic, under house beams, or on house shingles. These nests are usually kept dry by an overhang or any type of coverage.
If you notice any of these nests in or around your living environment, a professional exterminator like Ecotech Pest Control, should be called, 631-868-7023. A licensed technician will inspect and identify your wasp problem and safely and effectively provide a treatment to rid you of this problem.
